After being fired from the ITV serial opera Emmerdale, actress Susan Cookson is said to be “devastated.”
Susan, 59, made her debut on the ITV soap opera in 2019 as Wendy Posner, a nurse who came to the town to ask Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins), who was expecting her granddaughter, questions.
The audience will recall that Victoria was raped by Lee (Kris Mochrie), the character’s eldest son, and that he was in a coma following an attack by her brother Robert (Ryan Hawley).
Later, she started working at the neighborhood surgery before settling down with her new partner, Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw).
Susan, who once starred in Coronation Street, Doctors, and Casualty, is reportedly “devastated” by the decision of the soap opera executives to fire her.
“She enjoys being a part of the show and loves it.” The Sun was told by a source.
The cast genuinely likes her, but because to budget limitations, difficult choices must be made, and as a result, Susan was one of several cast members who left.
There just isn’t enough money to support everyone anymore due to ITV’s financial issue with the soap operas.
In the end, they said, “There is no room for the character in the show anymore if they aren’t inspiring a lot of story from producers.”
On set, there is always concern about who will be the next to go.
“It is hoped that Susan will be able to visit her grandson Harry in the future, and the door is very much left open for her.”
The actress is the most recent member in a lengthy list of Emmerdale cast members who will be leaving in the upcoming months.
Roxy Shahidi, who portrays Leyla Harding, and Lesley Dunlop, who plays Brenda Walker, are leaving after 17 and 14 years, respectively.
Paula Lane, who debuted as Ella Forster earlier this year, joins them.
After serving as Will Taylor for five years, Dean Andrews bowed out over Christmas. After a deadly heart attack, the character collapsed to the ground in front of returnee Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and wife Kim Tate (Claire King).
After 13 years, Daisy Campbell’s Amelia Spencer also departed, having been prompted to do so by her violent lover Tom King’s (James Chase) incarceration.
